SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to:

  1. Discuss Joseph’s reward for obeying God’s law (Genesis 39:7-12).
  2. Explain how David was rewarded for respecting civil rule (Exodus 20:13, Psalms 26:1-12).
  3. Identify how the three Hebrew youths were rewarded for refusing idolatry (Exodus 20:3, Daniel 3:1-30).
  4. Discuss Esther’s obedience to Mordecai (Esther 4:1-16).
  5. Cite examples of people who obeyed God and were rewarded.
  6. Discuss what seeming ‘advantage’ was given up in each case of obedience.

STEP 1: Review

STEP 3: Explanation

The teacher explains:

a. Joseph’s reward for obeying God’s law (Genesis 39:7-12).

b. David’s reward for respecting civil rule (Exodus 20:13, Psalms 26:1-12).

 

 

c. The three Hebrew youths’ reward for obeying God’s command to avoid idolatry (Exodus 20:3, Daniel 3:1-30).

Learners work in groups to read and discuss the Bible passages, then share their summaries with the class.

NOTE:
Consequences of Obedience

  1. Joseph's Obedience: Joseph was rewarded with success in Potiphar’s house and later became a ruler in Egypt (Genesis 39:7-12).
  2. David's Obedience: David was rewarded with God's favor, protection, and eventual kingship (Exodus 20:13, Psalms 26:1-12).
  3. The Three Hebrew Youths' Obedience: They were saved from the fiery furnace because of their refusal to worship idols (Exodus 20:3, Daniel 3:1-30).
  4. Esther's Obedience: Esther's obedience to Mordecai led to her becoming queen and saving the Jewish people (Esther 4:1-16).
  5. What was given up?
    • Joseph: He gave up personal freedom and potential relationships.
    • David: He gave up personal vengeance.
    • The three Hebrew youths: They gave up their lives in a fiery furnace, trusting God.
    • Esther: She gave up personal safety for the good of her people.
