NOTE

SOMATO TYPE

Somatotype is a classification system that categorizes human bodies into three broad types based on their dominant physical characteristics: endomorphs (round and soft), mesomorphs (muscular and athletic), and ectomorphs (lean and slender). It's often used in fields like anthropology, sports science, and physical education to understand body composition and potential athletic capabilities.

Types of somato type

  1. Endomorph: Endomorphs typically have a rounder body shape with higher levels of body fat. They tend to have a softer appearance, with more pronounced curves. Endomorphs often have a slower metabolism, making it easier for them to gain weight. They may struggle with losing weight and may have a propensity to store excess fat, especially around the abdomen.

   - Examples: People with an endomorphic somatotype might include individuals who naturally have a more robust build, such as some powerlifters or individuals with a more "stocky" frame.

  1. Mesomorph: Mesomorphs are characterized by a naturally muscular and athletic physique. They typically have a more rectangular body shape with broad shoulders and a narrow waist.

Mesomorphs tend to gain muscle mass more easily and have a higher metabolism compared to endomorphs. They often excel in sports that require strength, speed, and power.

   - Examples: Athletes like sprinters, bodybuilders, and gymnasts are often classified as mesomorphs due to their muscular and well-defined bodies.

  1. Ectomorph: Ectomorphs have a lean and slender build with little body fat and a fast metabolism. They often have long limbs and a narrower frame.

Ectomorphs may struggle to gain weight or muscle mass despite eating a lot. They tend to excel in endurance activities due to their efficient energy metabolism.

   - Examples: Long-distance runners, swimmers, and cyclists are commonly ectomorphic, as their body type is well-suited for activities that require endurance and efficiency.

EVALUATION: 1. What is somato type

  1. Identify the 3 types of somato type and explain them.
