STEP 1: The teacher revises the previous lesson and introduces the topic of modifiers. The teacher explains that modifiers are words that add meaning to other words, specifically adjectives and adverbs.
Learners listen, observe, and ask questions.
STEP 2: The teacher introduces adjectives of colour and size (e.g., red, blue, small, tiny) and explains how they modify nouns. Then, the teacher introduces adverbs of manner (e.g., quickly, slowly), rate of occurrence (e.g., frequently, occasionally), and degree (e.g., very, extremely).
Learners take notes and observe examples on the board.
STEP 3: The teacher demonstrates how to use modifiers in sentences. For example, “The small cat quickly ran across the street,” or “She is very smart.” The teacher asks students to provide their own examples.
Learners create their own sentences using the new modifiers.
