NOTE

LONG JUMP

Long jump is a track and field event that involves athletes attempting to jump as far as possible from a take-off board into a sandpit. Here is a detailed overview of the event:

Equipment:

  1. Take-off board: A small, rectangular board located at the end of the runway, marking the point from which athletes must take off.
  2. Sandpit: A soft, sand-filled landing area where athletes attempt to land as far from the take-off board as possible.

Technique:

  1. Approach: Athletes take a sprinting approach down a runway, typically around 40 meters long, to build up speed before the take-off.
  2. Take-off: As the athlete nears the take-off board, they lower their center of gravity, accelerate, and drive off their dominant foot, pushing off the board with their non-dominant foot.
  3. Flight: During the flight phase, the athlete extends their body horizontally, reaching forward with their arms and legs to maximize distance.
  4. Landing: The athlete aims to land with their feet slightly ahead of their center of gravity, touching down with their heels first, then rolling onto their hips and shoulders to help maintain forward momentum. It is essential to avoid dragging the hands or feet in the sand to prevent a foul jump.

Rules:

  1. Athletes must take off from behind the take-off board; if their foot extends beyond the board, the jump is considered a foul.
  2. The distance of the jump is measured from the closest point of the take-off board to the first mark made by the athlete in the sandpit.
  3. Athletes typically have three attempts to achieve their best distance, with the top performers advancing to subsequent rounds if applicable.

EVALUATION: 1. Mention 4 rules in long jump

  1. Identify 3 techniques used in long jump
  2. Identify 2 major equipment for long jump.
