PERIOD 1: Introduction to Expository Essay Writing

Introduction

  • The teacher revises the previous lesson and introduces the expository essay, explaining its purpose to inform, explain, or describe.
  • The teacher presents the topic “Controlling HIV/AIDS in Nigeria” and discusses its significance.
  • Learners are introduced to the structure and format of an expository essay: Introduction, Body (with clear supporting points), and Conclusion.

 

Discussion

  • The teacher explains the key features of an expository essay:
    • Clear thesis statement
    • Well-supported arguments with facts and statistics
    • Logical structure and flow of ideas

 

Activity:

  • Learners are divided into groups to brainstorm and create an outline for the expository essay on “Controlling HIV/AIDS in Nigeria,” listing key points and facts they will use.
  • Learners observe, learn, and participate.

PERIOD 2: Writing the Expository Essay
