NOTE

THE SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD

  1. Meaning of Sovereignty of God
Sovereignty refers to God’s supreme power and authority to do as He pleases. He controls nature, history, and human life. He is not subject to any higher authority.
  2. God the Creator
  • First account of creation (Genesis 1): God created the heavens and the earth in six days and rested on the seventh. Each day had specific creations such as light, sky, land, plants, animals, and humans.
  • Second account of creation (Genesis 2): This account focuses more on the creation of man, the Garden of Eden, and human relationships.
  • Comparison:
    • Genesis 1 presents a structured, chronological order.
    • Genesis 2 focuses on man and his relationship with God.
    • Both accounts together show the depth and purpose of creation.
  • Psalm 19:1: “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”
  1. Sovereignty over Individual Lives
  • Daniel 4:4–37: King Nebuchadnezzar learned through personal experience that God rules over the kingdoms of men and gives power to whomever He wills.
  • Isaiah 45:10: Man cannot question God’s authority. He does what pleases Him.
  1. Things Created by God vs. Made by Man
  • Created by God: Sun, moon, stars, oceans, animals, humans, trees
  • Made by man: Cars, houses, books, furniture, clothes
  1. Implication of God’s Sovereignty
  • Students should recognize that God has a plan for each person.
  • They should trust God’s decisions and submit to His will in every situation.
  • It helps develop humility and obedience.
