MOTOR INSURANCE

TYPES OF POLICIES IN MOTOR INSURANCE 

  1. Act only policy: This is a policy that provides the minimum statutory for

motor vehicle users, that is, in complying with road traffic acts. The financial

compensation is made available to the third parties in respect of insured

liability against their injury or death. This does not extend to third party

property damaged.

  1. Third party only policy: This is a policy that provides indemnity to the

policy holder, for death or injury to third parties arising from the use of

motor vehicle as well as for damage to property of third parties.

  1. Third party fire and theft: This is a policy that provides the insured with

financial compensation in respect of loss or damage to insured vehicles

caused by either fire or theft.

  1. Comprehensive policy: This is the widest form of motor insurance cover

that provides financial compensation for loss or damage to the insured and

third party vehicle. Medical expenses, personal effects are also covered.

Exclusions in comprehensive motor insurance cover

  1. Loss or damage arising from theft if the ignition key is left in the car
  2. Wear and tear, depreciation, mechanical or electrical break down
  3. Illegal use of the motor i.e. smuggling
  4. Damage to tyres, breaking, punctures, bursting etc
