NOTE

EXHAUST SYSTEM

The exhaust system in a vehicle is a series of pipes and components that guide exhaust gases away from the engine and expel them outside the vehicle. It typically includes components such as exhaust manifolds, catalytic converters, mufflers, resonators, and tailpipes.

Functions of the exhaust system

  1. The primary function of the exhaust system is to safely remove exhaust gases produced during the combustion process from the engine's cylinders and expel them outside the vehicle.
  2. The exhaust system helps reduce the noise produced by the engine during operation by directing exhaust gases through mufflers and resonators, which dampen and absorb sound waves.
  3. Modern exhaust systems are equipped with catalytic converters, which help reduce harmful emissions by converting pollutants such as carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and nitrogen oxides into less harmful substances through chemical reactions.
  4. The exhaust system helps cool down the hot exhaust gases before they are released into the environment. This helps prevent damage to surrounding components and reduces the risk of fires or accidents.
  5. A well-designed exhaust system can help optimize engine performance by providing proper back pressure and exhaust gas flow, which can enhance engine efficiency and power output.

EVALUATION: 1. Describe the exhaust system

  1. Mention 5 functions of the exhaust system to motor vehicle

CLASSWORK: As in evaluation
