NOTE
HUMAN REPRODUCTION II
Structure and function of female reproductive system
The female reproductive system consists of several organs and structures that work together to produce, receive, and nurture ova (eggs), as well as support the development of a fetus during pregnancy.
- Ovaries: The ovaries are paired organs located on either side of the uterus within the pelvic cavity. Ovaries produce and release ova (eggs) through a process called ovulation. They also secrete female sex hormones, including estrogen and progesterone, which regulate the menstrual cycle and maintain female reproductive health.
- Fallopian Tubes (Oviducts): The fallopian tubes are paired tubes that extend from the ovaries to the uterus. They provide a passageway for ova to travel from the ovaries to the uterus.
- Uterus (Womb): The uterus is a muscular organ located in the pelvic cavity, between the bladder and rectum. The uterus is where a fertilized egg implants and develops into a fetus during pregnancy. It provides a protective environment and nourishment for the developing embryo/fetus until birth.
- Cervix: The cervix is the lower portion of the uterus that connects to the vagina. The cervix serves as a passageway between the uterus and the vagina. It also produces cervical mucus, which changes consistency throughout the menstrual cycle to facilitate or inhibit sperm movement into the uterus.
- Vagina: The vagina is a muscular tube that extends from the cervix to the external genitalia. The vagina serves as a passageway for menstrual blood to leave the body during menstruation.
- External Genitalia (Vulva): The external genitalia include the labia majora, labia minora, clitoris, and vaginal opening. The external genitalia protect the internal reproductive organs and are involved in sexual arousal and pleasure.
EVALUATION: 1. Identify 5 female reproductive organs and state their functions.
CLASSWORK: As in evaluation
CONCLUSION: The teacher commends the students positively
