NIGERIA LOCATION, POSITION AND SIZE
Nigeria is a country located in West Africa, known for its diverse culture, rich history, and significant economic influence on the continent. With a population of over 200 million people, it is the most populous country in Africa. Nigeria has a mix of ethnic groups, including Hausa, Yoruba, and Igbo, contributing to its cultural vibrancy. The capital city is Abuja, while Lagos serves as the major economic and commercial hub. Nigeria has a varied landscape, featuring savannahs, rainforests, and the Niger River.
Location and position of Nigeria
Nigeria is situated in West Africa, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the south. Its approximate latitude ranges from about 4 to 14 degrees North.
It's spans a longitude range of approximately 3 to 15 degrees East. Bordered to the west by Benin, to the north by Niger, to the northeast by Chad, and to the east by Cameroon. The southern border is defined by the coastline along the Gulf of Guinea in the Atlantic Ocean.
The size and political divisions of Nigeria
Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa and covers an area of about 923,768 square kilometers, making it the 32nd largest country in the world. It is divided into 36 states and one Federal Capital Territory (FCT), where the capital city, Abuja, is located. The states are further divided into Local Government Areas (LGAs). Nigeria's political structure operates within a federal system, comprising the central government and the individual states, each with its own government and legislature. The country's political landscape reflects its diverse ethnic and cultural composition.
