NOTE

JAMES TEACHING ON PRAYERS (JAMES 5:1-18,4:1-3)

Here is the summary of James’ teaching on prayers.

- God gives to all men generously without reproach but one should ask in faith without doubting. One who doubts is like the wave of the sea tossed and driven by the wind

- A double minded man is unstable in all his ways an shouldn’t think he would receive anything from God

- The suffering should pray while the cheerful should sing praise. The sick should call on the elders of the church for prayer and be anointed with oil the name of the Lord. The prayer of faith will save the sick man and the Lord will raise him and forgive his sins if there are any.

- Confess your sins to one another so that you will be healed.

- The prayer of a righteous man has great power in its effect e.g Elijah prayed and God answered him

REASONS FOR UNANSWERED PRAYER (MATT 6:7-13)

  1. Lack of faith in God
  2. Doubting the efficiency of the prayer said or being said
  3. Asking wrongly or asking against the will of God to make a wrong use of what we ask for like spreading it on our passion
  4. This causes a gap between us and God and ties hand from acting on our behalf
  5. Unforgiving spirit. God will forgive us and answer our prayer. If we forgive other their sin against us
  6. Hypocrisy making a show of prayer and preferences to be good is bad.
