Drugs

Drugs are substances that have physiological effects when introduced into the body. They can alter the body's functions, mood, perception, or consciousness. Drugs can be classified into various categories based on their effects and uses, including:

  1. Medicinal drugs: These are substances used for medical purposes to prevent, treat, or manage diseases, symptoms, or conditions. Examples include antibiotics, painkillers, antidepressants, antihypertensives, and antacids.
  2. Recreational drugs: These are substances used for non-medical purposes to achieve pleasurable effects or alter one's mood or consciousness. Examples include alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, cannabis, cocaine, ecstasy, hallucinogens, and opioids.
  3. Performance-enhancing drugs: These are substances used to improve physical performance, endurance, or cognitive function. They are commonly used by athletes, bodybuilders, and students seeking to enhance their academic performance. Examples include anabolic steroids, stimulants, and nootropics.

Uses of drugs

Uses of drugs vary depending on their classification:

  1. It is used to treat medical conditions, alleviate symptoms, manage chronic diseases, prevent infections, or improve overall health and well-being.
  2. It is used for recreational purposes, socialization, relaxation, euphoria, altered consciousness, or to escape from reality temporarily.
  3. It is used to enhance physical performance, muscle growth, endurance, focus, concentration, or cognitive function in sports, academics, or professional settings.

Drug Abuse

Drug abuse refers to the misuse or excessive use of drugs for non-medical purposes, leading to negative consequences for the individual's health, well-being, and social functioning. It involves the use of drugs in ways that are harmful, addictive, or compulsive, often leading to dependence, tolerance, and withdrawal symptoms. Drugs that can be abused include: Alcohol, Opioids, Stimulants, Depressants, Hallucinogens, Cannabis, Inhalants etc.
