MAJORITY AND MINORITY INTERESTS
Majority interest refers to the rights of the major dominant ethnic groups in a given society or country while minority interest is the rights of several small ethnic groups scattered all over the states of the federation
Nigeria has three major ethnic groups: Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa-fulani which forms the majority groups while we have the larger minorities inclusive of the Ijaw, Ibibio, Edo etc while other tribes are the smaller minorities. Since minority is both a political and numerical category therefore some ethnic groups felt a sense of injustice and marginalization it is on this basis the struggles for the recognition of the rights of the minorities ensued
