INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES:
STEP 1:
The teacher revises the importance of using keywords in summary writing. Keywords are the main points that should be retained when summarizing a passage.

STEP 2:
The teacher provides a sample passage and asks students to underline the key words and phrases.

Sample Passage:
"In the past, people used to travel by horse-drawn carriages, but today, most people rely on cars and airplanes for transportation. The rise of modern vehicles has made traveling faster and more convenient, but it has also led to increased pollution and traffic congestion. The development of public transportation systems aims to reduce the negative effects of personal vehicles on the environment."

STEP 3:
The teacher demonstrates how to extract the keywords from the passage and write a concise summary using those keywords. A possible summary:
"Modern transportation, including cars and airplanes, has made travel faster and more convenient. However, it has also increased pollution and traffic. Public transportation systems are being developed to address these environmental issues."
