NOTE

THE SEWING MACHINE

A sewing machine is a mechanical or electronic device used to stitch fabric and other materials together with thread. It automates the process of sewing, making it faster, more precise, and more efficient than hand sewing. Sewing machines come in various types and configurations, but they typically consist of the following components:

  1. Needle: The needle is a slender, pointed tool that penetrates the fabric, carrying the thread through the material to create stitches.
  2. Bobbin: The bobbin is a small spool that holds the lower thread, which interlocks with the upper thread to form stitches.
  3. Feed Dogs: Feed dogs are metal teeth or grooves that grip the fabric and move it forward under the needle during sewing, ensuring even stitching and fabric feeding.
  4. Presser Foot: The presser foot is a metal or plastic attachment that holds the fabric in place while sewing. It can be adjusted to accommodate different fabric thicknesses and sewing techniques.
  5. Stitch Selector: The stitch selector allows the user to choose from various stitch types and lengths, depending on the sewing project and desired outcome.
  6. Tension Dial: The tension dial adjusts the tension of the thread, controlling how tightly or loosely the stitches are formed. Proper tension is essential for achieving balanced and even stitches.
  7. Foot Pedal or Start/Stop Button: Sewing machines are typically operated using a foot pedal that controls the speed of stitching. Some modern machines also feature a start/stop button for hands-free operation.

EVALUATION: 1.  Define sewing machine

  1. Mention 6 parts of a sewing machine.
