NOTE

POLICY DOCUMENT

Policy document is an evidence of insurance between the insurer and insured. It is generally believed and accepted that the completion of proposal form does not put either the insurer or the insured at risk until the contract based on the information in the proposal form is translated to a policy. It also becomes evidence at the court of law following any disagreement over some issues between the two parties.

COMPONENT PART OF POLICY DOCUMENT

  1. Declaration

It appears on the first page of policy document called Declaration page, title page or policy face page. The page identifies the proposer as the insured, outlines the risks (such as property, life or health) to be covered, any limits of the policy and the time period that the policy will be in force.

  1. Definition

A section dedicated to definitions of common insurance terms which the insured will encounter when reading the policy.

  1. Insuring agreement

The insuring agreement is the thrust of the policy, summarizing the main premises and promises for which losses will be compensated and benefits paid.

  1. Exclusion:

This is important section because it lets the insured know what, when and who wouldn’t be covered by the policy.

  1. Condition:

The condition included in a policy are rules of conduct, duties and obligations that specify or limit the Insurance Company’s need or promise to pay a claim, as in the case of fraud, and includes requirements for the insured party such as having to provide proof of loss and proof of value.

EVALUATION:    1. Define policy document
