PROJECT: USE FREE HAND CUTTING TO PRODUCE SKIRT OR KNICKERS FOR THEMSELVES
Procedure
- Fabric: Choose a fabric suitable for the garment you want to make, such as cotton for skirts or jersey for knickers.
- Scissors: Sharp scissors that are suitable for cutting fabric.
- Measuring Tape: For taking measurements accurately.
- Pins: To hold fabric pieces together while sewing.
- Sewing Machine: If available, for stitching the pieces together.
- Take accurate measurements of your waist, hips, and desired length for skirts or knickers.
- Add seam allowance (typically 1.5 to 2 cm) to your measurements for sewing.
- Decide on the style and design of your skirt or knickers.
- Sketch the pattern directly onto the fabric using fabric chalk or a washable marker.
- Remember to include allowances for seams and hems.
- Carefully cut along the outlines you've drawn, ensuring smooth and even cuts.
- Take your time and double-check measurements to avoid mistakes.
- If using a sewing machine, follow the instructions for threading and stitching.
- Pin the fabric pieces together, right sides facing each other, before sewing.
- Sew along the edges, leaving openings for waistbands or leg openings as necessary.
- Finish seams with a serger or zigzag stitch to prevent fraying.
- Hem the edges of skirts or leg openings of knickers for a clean finish.
- Attach waistbands or elastic, ensuring a snug but comfortable fit.
- Trim any loose threads and give your garment a final press with an iron.
