FUNCTIONS OF PARTS/ORGANS OF FARM ANIMALS

Functions of the skeletal system

  1. The skeletal system provides structural support for the body, maintaining its shape and framework.
  2. Bones protect vital organs such as the brain, heart, and lungs from injury and damage.
  3. Skeletal muscles attached to bones enable movement by contracting and pulling on them.
  4. Bones serve as a reservoir for essential minerals like calcium and phosphorus, which are released into the bloodstream as needed for metabolic functions.
  5. Within the bone marrow, certain bones produce red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets through a process called hematopoiesis.
  6. Yellow marrow, found in the central cavities of long bones, stores fat, serving as an energy reserve.

Functions of the reproductive system

  1. The reproductive system produces gametes (sperm in males and eggs in females) through the process of gametogenesis.
  2. It facilitates the union of male and female gametes, resulting in the formation of a zygote, the first cell of a new organism.
  3. The reproductive system provides a suitable environment for the development and growth of the embryo and fetus during pregnancy.
  4. Specialized glands within the reproductive system secrete hormones such as testosterone in males and estrogen and progesterone in females, which regulate reproductive functions and secondary sexual characteristics.
  5. The reproductive system influences behaviors related to courtship, mating, and parental care, ensuring the continuation of the species.
  6. In females, the reproductive system facilitates the process of childbirth, including labor, delivery, and lactation, ensuring the survival of offspring.
