NOTE
JESUS AS THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD JOHN 3:19, 9:4-5, 12:35-36
Jesus referred to Himself as the light of the world in at least three instances in the book of John.
The first instance was during the visit of the Pharisee named Nicodemus. Jesus said, “And this is the judgement, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light , because their deeds are evil.” John 3:19.
During later discussion, He said, “I am the light of the world, he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light if life.” John 8:12.
Also before He healed the blind man, He said, “We must work the works of Him who sent me while it is day; night comes when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” John 9:4-5.
From all of these, we see that Jesus Christ is the light of the world because he is the source of the light that quickens our understanding, because his teachings and his example illuminate our path, and because his power persuades us to do good.
