NOTE
JESUS AS THE LAMB OF GOD John 1:29-34
“To be called a Lamb of God means that God gave Jesus to be killed like a lamb for our sins so we could live forever.” The majority of Old Testament passages that mention “lamb” refer to a sacrifice.
John the Baptist referred to Jesus as the one that comes after him but who comes with more authority than him. He, apart from presenting Jesus as a gentle, humble, and harmless person like a lamb, also points to Him as the sacrificial lamb for the sin of the world. The lamb is an animal which is often sacrificed for a sin offering, to atone for the sin of the people. It is regarded as a clean animal recognizing the authority of its owner. Hence John the Baptist is predicting that Jesus will die to atone for their sins.
