Surname is a child’s last name which is usually the family’s name of the child’s father. Many surnames were formed as shown below;

1. from occupations- Archer, Baker, Clark, Cook, Farmer, Fisher, Hunter, Mason etc

2. From places- Burns, Cape, Forest, Ford, Lake, Hamilton, Hill etc

3. From animals- Bullock, fox, Hare, Hart, Lamb, Lyon, Wolfe etc

4. From birds- Drake, Nightingale, Peacock, Swan etc

5. From colours- Violet, Green, Blue, Black etc

6. From qualities of mind or body- Bright, Good, Little, Merry, Noble, Smart, Young etc
