SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to;

  1. Recognize, read and spell the ‘ou’ graphemes

ENTRY BEHAVIOR : Pupils can identify and recite all the letters of the alphabets and the vowels

SET INDUCTION : The teachers uses the ‘I pricked my thumb with a needle’ song to arouse the pupils

INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNIQUES : Discussion, group activities,Songs

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS : Objects with the ‘ou’ grapheme, chart showing objects with the ‘ou’ grapheme sound, white board, dry erase marker, clue cards

-Revises the Long and short vowel sounds we’ve treated before

- Introduces the grapheme ‘ou’

- Explains that the sound ‘ou’ can sound as ‘ow’ e.g ground

It could also sound as a long oo sound e.g group

It could also be pronounced as a short u sound e.g touch

- Gives a list of word with the ‘ou’ sound in the explained variations

GUIDED PRACTICE

- Shows the pupils clue cards with the grapheme in front and a clue word at the back. Have them say the clue word then sound the grapheme it represents e.g round(ow)

- Shows the children several images of words containing the grapheme ‘ou’ and asks them to pronounce it aloud
