SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to

2. List effects of excessive use of drugs
3. Discuss factors responsible for drug abuse
4. Mention at least 3 characteristics of National Unity
5. Explain some of the characteristics and Analyse National symbol.
6. Define the meaning of personal security management.

NOTE

There are 5 Methods of Intake of drugs into the body:

1. Smoking
2. Snorting
3. Swallowing
4. Injecting
5. Through Suppositories

Modes Of Drugs Use

1. Normal Use Of Drugs

These are drugs that produce desired effects. This is the use of drugs according to the doctor’s prescription. This type of drugs make us get well. E.g Aspirin, Panadol, etc.

2. Excessive Use Of Drugs

These are drugs that causes damage and death in certain cases. One should avoid excessive use of drugs.

Excessive use of drug is also known as drug abuse.

Consequences/ Effects Of Normal Use Of Drugs

1. Development to tolerance to drugs
2. Reduces sense of pain

Factors Causing Drug Abuse Behavior

1.Pleasurable effects of drugs(Psychological)

2. Unpleasant effects on withdrawal(psychological)
3. Inability to control peer pressure(social)
4. Presences of the drug in the environment(Physical)

EVALUATION:    1. Differentiate between Normal and Excessive drug use

2. Mention 3 consequences of drug abuse
3. List 4 factors which sustain drug abuse behavior.

1. There must be social cohesion and cooperation
2. All interest are geared towards the societal goals and objectives
3. There must be leaders either political will
4. There must be peace and stability
5. The people must be law abiding citizens.

Benefits Of National Unity

1. It promotes hard work of citizens to service/duties
2. It promotes social, economic and political development
3. It promotes fundamental human rights and promotion of rule of law
4. There will be economic development of foreign investment.
5. A united Nation will have adequate security for its citizens.

Personal Security is the safety of human beings and the ways in which they are enabled to live a full and productive life with dignity, without feeling afraid or at risk. It can also be known as personal safety which refers to an individual’s ability to go about their everyday life free from the threat or free of psychological, emotional or physical harm from others. Personal Security aims to protect people from physical violence, domestic abuse or predatory adults.
