INTRODUCTION OF TOPIC

The teacher revises the previous lesson Topic On the Growth of Industries in Nigeria.

She then explains An Industry.

An Industry is a building where manufacturing of a type of material for trade is produced. An Industry could also be defined as a work place where processes involved in collecting raw materials and making them into new products are carried out.

She Explain the Agricultural and Agro based Industry

Nigeria was known for the production and exploitation of some agricultural produces in the past, but since the discovery of oil in 1956 in Nigeria, Nigeria looked much on oil and gas production.

Before now, she could boast of agricultural produces like:

1. Palm oil and palm kernel

2. Groundnut

3. Cotton

4. Hides and Skin

5. Cocoa.

Revenue from these agricultural produces was the economic back bone of Nigeria then. In the East, we had palm tree plantation where palm oil and palm kernel were produced.

In the West, we had cocoa plantation which provides cocoa beans essential for the production of beverages. In the North, produce like :

Cotton, Groundnut, Hides and Skin, Tomatoes and Pepper, etc are produced. These products are produced in commercial quantities and sold both locally and in the international market.
