First aid can be defined as an emergency care or treatment given to an ill or injured person before regular medical aid can be obtained
First aid box can be defined as a box containing equipment needed to give immediate medical help in an emergency.

STEP 3 DEMONSTRATION | The teacher lists the contents of the first aid box and their uses 1. A box of adhesive dressing (Plasters) of different sizes for covering small wounds. 2. Blunt-ended scissors for cutting bandage of plaster. 3. Antiseptic lotion to use with the cotton wool and antiseptic wipes. 4. Cotton wool for cleaning cuts and gauzes. 5. Some triangular bandages to several safety pins for making a sling or emergency bandage. 6. Sterile dressings (field dressings) of various sizes for covering wounds. Sterile eye dressings with bandage attached for eye injuries. 7. Aspirin or paracetamol preferably sealed in foil to give longer shelf life. 8. Anti-histamine cream for insect bites and stings. 9. Tweezers for removing splinters. 10. Tubular gauze bandages for finger injuries and applicator tongs. 11. Two or three crepe or conforming bandages for sprains and for wounds in awkward places such as elbows and ankles. The teacher describes simple first aid treatment. BURNS 1. Place the burned area under running cool water for at least 5 minutes to reduce swelling. 2. Apply an antiseptic spray, antibiotic ointment, or aloe vera cream to soothe the area. 3. Loosely wrap a gauze bandage around the burn. 4. To relieve pain, take acetaminophen, ibuprofen, or naproxen.
BRUISES 1. Rest the bruised area, if possible. 2. Ice the bruise with an ice pack wrapped in a towel. Leave it in place for 10 to 20 minutes. Repeat several times a day for a day or two as needed. 3. Compress the bruised area if it is swelling, using an elastic bandage. Don't make it too tight. 4. Elevate the injured area.
CUTS 1. Wash your hands. This helps avoid infection. 2. Stop the bleeding. 3. Clean the wound. 4. Apply an antibiotic or petroleum jelly. 5. Cover the wound. 6. Change the dressing. 7. Get a tetanus shot. 8. Watch for signs of infection. | Pupils pay attention |
