The teacher then explains that

Hockey is a kind of invasion game that is played by two teams of eleven players. Each team's goal is to push a small and heavy hockey ball into their opposition's goal.

 

She explains and demonstrates the basic skills in hockey

1. skating

2. stickhandling

3. passing

4. shooting

 

Safety rules in hockey

  1. Check safety gear and equipment regularly for wear and tear, and to ensure it is in good condition.
  2. Purchase a foam-lined helmet specially designed for ice hockey.
  3. The helmet should fit snugly.  
  4. A full face mask can protect your face and eyes.
  5.  Use a mouth guard.

6.   Shoulder, chest, elbow, leg, knee and shin pads, as well as padded gloves, should be worn. Groin protection is advised.

7.   Ice skates should fit and provide ankle protection. Ice skates that are too large – or too small – can be dangerous.

8.   Remember the “chin rule ” when buying a hockey stick. With ice skates on and the stick resting on the end of its blade, the butt of the stick should come to three inches below your chin.

9.   Goalies need special protective gear to stop high-speed slap shots.
