SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to

  2. Discuss the methods of preserving fruits
  3. Summarize the meaning of stitches
  4. List the different types of stitches
  5. Explain the types of stitches

INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNIQUES: Identification, explanation, playway method, questions and answers, demonstration.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS: needles, pins, thread, measuring thread, tracing wheel, scissors etc, Chart showing different types of stitches, fruits, charts, video clips

INTRODUCTION

The teacher revises the previous lesson on preservation of tubers and effects of wrong meal planning and unhealthy eating habits

Examples of fruits

1. Apples and pears.

2. Citrus – oranges, grapefruits, mandarins and limes.

3. Stone fruit – nectarines, apricots, peaches and plums.

4. Tropical and exotic – bananas and mangoes.

5. Berries – strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, kiwifruit and passionfruit.

5. Melons – watermelons, rockmelons and honeydew melons.

 

 

Methods of preserving fruits

1. freezing

5. dehydrating

The teacher explains the meaning of stitches

Stitches mean movement of a threaded needle in sewing or in closing a wound : a portion of thread left after one such movement

 

She outlines the types of stitches and gives examples

 

1. TEMPORARY STITCHES:

Even tacking.

Uneven tacking.

Diagonal tacking.

Tailor's tacking.

 

2. PERMANENT STITCHES

Running stitch Backstitch

Overcast stitch
