Nigeria gained independence in 1960, but she was still ruled with the British laws till 1963. Though an independent nation yet Nigeria was still under British laws until 1963. Periods of civil rule in Nigeria were the periods when democratically elected civilian leaders ruled Nigeria under the constitutional guide lines.
