SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to

  1. Explain the meaning of preservation
  2. Justify the reasons for preservation
  3. List the agents and tools for cleaning the home and surroundings
  4. State the guidelines for cleaning the home and surroundings

INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNIQUES: Identification, explanation, playway method, questions and answers, demonstration.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS: farm tools, baskets etc, pictures of barns, silos, maize crib etc, brooms, water, buckets, detergents, towels, waste bins, mopping pail, mop stick, scrubbing brush, hoover toilet brush

INTRODUCTION

The teacher revises the previous lesson on reasons for cleaning the home, classrooms and surroundings

EXPLANATION           

She explains the meaning of  crop preservation

Crop preservation is the process of treating and handling crop to stop or greatly slow down spoilage (loss of quality, edibility or nutritive value) caused or accelerated by micro-organisms.

 

Reasons for preserving food

1. Some seasonal foods like mango, fresh maize, some vegetables etc, can be treated in such a way that they will be preserved for out of season use.

2. In some farming communities, food is produce in large quantity and need to be preserved for sale in cities or during food scarcity.

3. Preservation helps to prevent food spoilage.

4. Preservation makes foods to last or stay for a long period of time.

5. Preservation of food helps to convert food to a form that is most convenient for transportation and marketing.

Guidelines for cleaning the house, classroom and environment

1. Assemble all the tools to be used

2. Open the windows for homes and classrooms

3. dust the furniture and shelves

4. sweep the floor

5.Scrub/mop the floor

6. scrub the toilets using toilet cleaners

7. Cut down all grasses and rake them

8. trim flowers and trees

9. scrub and disinfect gutters and open drainages

10. Rearrange the furniture

11. Use air fresheners for homes and classrooms

12. Use disinfectants for toilet floors and bowls

13. dispose all the refuse properly, bagging them if necessary.
