EXPLANATION

She then explains the Independence Of Nigeria.

Nigeria became a British protectorate in 1901. British colonization lasted until 1960 when an independence movement succeeded in gaining independence for Nigeria. In Oct 1st1960, Nigeria gained political independence from Britain but self determination and governance was gained when the constitution of Nigeria originally started and power was in the hands of the elected black leaders and elected representatives in 1963.

She describes the Key People that Participated in the Independence Day Celebration:

1. Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe as the Governor General of Nigeria

2. Tafawa Balewa as the prime minister of Nigeria

3. Representatives of the Queen of England. On that day in history, the British flag was lowered and the Nigerian National flag went up.

The handover ceremony was held in Lagos.
