He played a leading role in Nigeria struggle for independence. He was the son of a Yoruba Farmer and he is an example of a self made leader. Awolowo introduced free Primary Education in western Nigeria. He formed a political party called the Action Group(AG). He was also the founder of the unity Party Nigeria(UPN) during the second republic. He was the first indigenous premier of western Nigeria.
