A literary theme is the main idea or underlying meaning a writer explores in a novel, short story, or other literary work

 

Common themes explored in literature

  1. Good vs. evil - this is about the ultimate war of good versus evil
  2. Love - family love, unrequited love, friendship, etc
  3. Redemption - a character flawed discovering his wicked ways and turning towards becoming better
  4. Courage and perseverance - having victory in the face of severe challenges and adversities
  5. Coming of age - a maturation from infancy, childhood, teenage/puberty to adulthood
  6. Revenge - a conflict between a character and their enemies
