STEP 2 EXPLANATION | She then gives the Biography Of Funmilayo Ransome Kuti. Funmilayo was born in Abeokuta, Ogun state, Nigeria and was the first female student to attend the Abeokuta Grammar School. As a young adult, she worked as a teacher, organizing some of the first preschool classes in the country and arranging literacy classes for lower income women. During the 1940s, Ransome-Kuti established the Abeokuta Women’s Union and advocated for women’s rights, demanding better representation of women in local governing bodies and an end to unfair taxes on market women. She took part in Nigerian Independence movement, attending conferences and joining overseas delegations to discuss proposed national constitution. She advocated for Nigerian women’s right to vote and became a noted member of International peace and women’s right movements. Encourage your young ones to read books as it will take you round the world. 2. Be Persistence in all you do: In 1949, the traditional ruler Alake of Egbaland imposed taxes on market women. Funmilayo immediately went to work. She mobilized thousands of women in Abeokuta and they hit the streets to protest. 50,000 women stormed the palace of the king. They were everywhere around the house. The Alake couldn’t get out of his house and the king fled to Osogbo.
