PRESENTATION

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY

PUPIL’S ACTIVITY

STEP 1

INTRODUCTION

The teacher revises the previous lesson on waste disposal

Pupils pay attention

STEP 2

EXPLANATION

The teacher discusses the meaning of pollution , types of air and water pollution and effects of water and air pollution

Pollution is the introduction of harmful materials into the environment. These harmful materials are called pollutants.

Types of water pollution

  • Chemical pollution. ...
  • Groundwater pollution. ...
  • Microbiological pollution. ...
  • Nutrient pollution. ...
  • Oxygen-depletion pollution. ...
  • Surface water pollution.

Types of air pollution

  • particulate matter.
  • nitrogen dioxide.
  • ozone.
  • sulphur dioxide.

Effects of Air pollution

1. Air pollution can damage crops and trees in a variety of ways.

2. Ground-level ozone can lead to reductions in agricultural crop and commercial forest yields

3. it reduces the growth and survivability of tree seedlings

4. It increases plant susceptibility to disease, pests and other environmental stresses (such as harsh weather).

Effects of water polltuion

1. It can cause contamination of drinking water – thereby contributing to waterborne illnesses.

2. Water pollution also affects the ecosystem – it can cause a phenomenon called eutrophication. This can cause fish and other aquatic organisms to die.

3. It degrades water quality and renders it toxic to humans or the environment

Pupils pay attention and participates

STEP 3

DEMONSTRATION

She further explains how to prevent and control air and water pollution

AIR POLLUTION

1.   Drive your car less. ...

2.   Keep your car in good repair. ...

3.   Turn off your engine. ...

4.   Don't burn your garbage. ...

5.   Stop having campfires in the city. ...

6.   Plant and care for trees. ...

7.   Switch to electric or hand-powered lawn equipment.

8.   Use less energy

WATER POLLUTION

1.   Pick up litter and throw it away in a garbage can.

2.   Blow or sweep fertilizer back onto the grass if it gets onto paved areas. ...

3.   Mulch or compost grass or yard waste. ...

4.   Wash your car or outdoor equipment where it can flow to a gravel or grassy area instead of a street.

Pupils pay attention and participate

STEP 4

NOTE TAKING

The teacher writes a short note on the board

The pupils copy the note in their books
