INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES

PERIOD 1: Erosion

PRESENTATION

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY

PUPIL’S ACTIVITY

STEP 1

INTRODUCTION

The teacher revises the previous lesson on environmental quality

Pupils pay attention

STEP 2

EXPLANATION

The teacher explains the meaning of erosion

Erosion is the wearing a way of rocks and other deposits on the earth's surface by the action of water, ice, wind, etc.

She then lists the types of erosion

1. wind erosion

2. water erosion

3. glacial erosion

4. temperature erosion

5. mass wasting (such as landslides

Pupils pay attention and participates

STEP 3

DEMONSTRATION

She further discusses the causes of erosion

  1. Water. Water is the most common cause of soil erosion.
  2. Wind. Wind can also make soil erode
  3. Ice. is the same as water.
  4. Gravity- If your land is sloped, the soil is going to naturally head down the slope because of gravity

She then outlines the effects of erosion on the environment

1. reduced ability of the soil to store water and nutrients

2. exposure of subsoil, which often has poor physical and chemical properties

3. higher rates of runoff

4. shedding water and nutrients otherwise used for crop growth.

5. loss of newly planted crops.

Pupils pay attention and participate

STEP 4

NOTE TAKING

The teacher writes a short note on the board

The pupils copy the note in their books
