STEP 3 DEMONSTRATION | She describes The Significance of the Amalgamation of Nigeria 1. Administrative Ease- For easier control of power in the country by the British. 2. Economic reason- The North was unable to sustain themselves due to bad climate as they lack basic amenities like water, adequate food produce and economic sustainability hence the depended on the Imperial grants. This grant forced the Lagos colony and the Southern Protectorates to send resources to the north to sustain the people there. This agitated the local people of both the Lagos Colony and the Southern protectorate but if the entire protectorate was amalgamated together into one it would quench the agitation as it would be one country. In 1918- The Northern and Southern Protectorates was Amalgamated with Lord Lugard as the 1st Governor General of Nigeria.
