NOTE

Nigeria with over 150 million population and more than 370 ethnic groups has three major ethnic groups: Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo. There are several other ethnic groups numbering more than one million members which include

 

THE ISOKO PEOPLE

They are located in Delta state. They are peaceful people and have no records or history of wars or conflicts between them and their neighbours.  The first group called the Erowa, Uzere and Okpe migrated from Benin. They are predominantly Christians.

Oghene is the word for God.

Practices peculiar to the Isoko people include; the idhu and owhoru festivals celebrated yearly.

Economic activities of the Isokos include faming, fishing and the production of palm oil and kernels. There are also petroleum-producing fields in the area.
