NOTE
Nigeria with over 150 million population and more than 370 ethnic groups has three major ethnic groups: Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo. There are several other ethnic groups numbering more than one million members which include
THE ORON PEOPLE
They are located in Akwa Ibom and Cross River states. As far back as 2370, Oron people were already settle in their present locations. Traditionally they have a king known as ‘’Ahta Oro” who has all the Ofong(Ivong or Ifong) afaha and the paramount rulers as members of his council
They have a colourful mode of dressing especially with the Iyara which is red in colour. The Iyara is worn with a white tailored traditional shirt and a wrapper to match. It can be combined with the rich native ties usually a colourful silky material. They are known for tying a piece of cloth in form of andkerchief on their neck.
Oron is rich in oil and gas and its oil reserves are off-shore.
