SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to

  1. Identify agricultural tools used in tilling the soil
  2. Explain deficiency and malnutrition
  3. Discuss the deficiency diseases of each nutrient

INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNIQUES: Identification, explanation, playway method, questions and answers, demonstration.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS: Charts of a well nourished child and a mal-nourished child, hoe, shovel, spade, rake

Agricultural tillage tools are tools used to break and loosen soil

Examples include rake, cutlass, axe, hoe

She explains the meaning of deficiency and malnutrition

Deficiency the quality or state of being defective or of lacking some necessary nutrients

 

Malnutrition is the condition that develops when the body is deprived of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients it needs to maintain healthy tissues and organ function. Malnutrition occurs in people who are either undernourished or overnourished.

 

She further outlines the deficiency disease of each nutrient

1. Protein- kwashiorkor

2. carbohydrates- marasmus

3. Vitamin- rickets, scurvy, anaemia

4. Fats and Oils- dermatitis, alopecia, Heart diseases, Colon cancer.

5. Minerals- goiter, excessive bleeding, anaemia

6. Water- Dehydration
