PERIOD 5:

PRESENTATION

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY

PUPIL’S ACTIVITY

STEP 1 – INTRODUCTION

Introduces real-life problems involving multiplication and division of money, including scenarios like online shopping.

Pupils listen and participate in a brief discussion.

STEP 2 – EXPLANATION

Demonstrates real-life problems involving the multiplication and division of money:

Example 1: You buy 3 pens at 5 Naira each. How much do you pay?

Example 2: You divide 20 Naira into 4 equal parts. How much is each part?

Pupils work on similar real-life problems in pairs.

STEP 3 – DEMONSTRATION

Solves more examples of money multiplication and division in the context of shopping, like buying items in bulk.

Pupils solve problems in groups or individually.

STEP 4 – NOTE TAKING

Pupils take notes on how to apply money multiplication and division to real-life problems.

Pupils write down examples in their notebooks.

NOTE:

  • When multiplying money in real life, think about the number of items being purchased and the cost per item.
  • Example: If one T-shirt costs 500 Naira, how much do 3 T-shirts cost? Answer: 500 Naira × 3 = 1500 Naira.
  • When dividing money, consider splitting it into equal parts.
  • Example: If you have 40 Naira and divide it between 4 people, each person gets 10 Naira.

EVALUATION:

  1. If you buy 5 books, each costing 4 Naira, how much do you pay in total?
  2. You divide 30 Naira among 3 people. How much does each person get?

CLASSWORK:

  1. Multiply: You buy 6 pens at 8 Naira each. How much do you pay?
  2. Divide: 50 Naira divided among 5 friends. How much does each friend get?

ASSIGNMENT:

  1. Multiply: You buy 2 T-shirts at 600 Naira each. How much do you pay?

Divide: You share 100 Naira equally among 4 people. How much does each person get?
