SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to

  1. Explain soil fertility
  2. Identify causes of reduction in soil fertility
  3. Describe effects of reduction in soil fertility
  4. List the traditional and modern materials in used for taking care of the body
  5. State the adverse effect in using dangerous cosmetics on the skin

INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNIQUES: Identification, explanation, playway method, questions and answers, demonstration.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS: Charts showing traditional and modern materials for taking care of the body, traditional materials e.g camwood, laali, tiro etc, modern materials e.g body spray, cream, nail polish etc, baby doll to show parts of the body, soap, towel, sponge, water, toothbrush, toothpaste, chewing stick etc

Soil fertility is the ability of soil to sustain plant growth and optimize crop yield

 

She highlights the reasons for reduction in soil fertility

1. inadequate fertilizer use

2. complete removal of crop residues

3. continuous cropping systems

4. climate and soil types

5. lack of proper cropping systems  

6. soil erosion  

 

She further explains the effects of the reduction in soil fertility

 

1. it results in lower yields and higher production costs.

2. It can cause rills and gullies that make the cultivation of paddocks impossible.

3. it reduces the ability of the soil to store water and nutrients.
