THE CURRENT FEDERAL CAPITAL OF NIGERIA
Abuja became the current capital of Nigeria on December 12 1991 during the regime of Gen Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida when it replaced Lagos. Abuja was chosen because of
- its central location which was neutral both ethnically and religiously
- it was where cultures and religions meet
- easy accessibility
- Pleasant climate
- low population density
- availability of land for future expansion
