STATES CREATION UNDER GEN MURTALA MOHAMMED-1976
In 1976, when Gen Murtala Mohammed came to power via coup d’etat, he created 7 new states. This led to the birth of Federal Capital Territory Abuja from Niger state, Niger and Sokoto states from North West state, Bauchi, Gongola and Borno from North Eastern state, Benue-Plateau was divided into Benue and Plateau, Ondo, Ogun and Oyo from Western states, Imo and Anambra from East central states. Here is the list of the 19 states:
