SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to

  1. Outline various food substances produced from agriculture
  2. Give the nutritional value of some agricultural produce
  3. Identify the sources of manufactured produce in agriculture
  4. Define Home economics
  5. Explain the scope of Home economics

INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNIQUES: Identification, explanation, playway method, questions and answers, demonstration.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS: Display of food items-bans, yam, tomatoes, pepper, plantain, biscuit etc, chart showing the different areas of Home Economics

The teacher revises the previous lesson on Introduction to Agriculture and Home Economics

6. Palm oil

7. coconut oil

8. flour

9. fruits

10. vegetables etc

 

She further explains that all produce from agriculture could be gotten from two sources

1. plant source e.g rice, biscuit, chips etc

2. animal source e.g milk, leather, meat, etc

 

She further explains that all agricultural produce could be grouped under five of the classes of nutrients

1. carbohydrates e.g rice, maize etc

2. Protein e.g meat, beans, milk etc

3. Vitamins e.g fruits, vegetables etc

4. Minerals e.g meat, milk, fruits, vegetables

5. Fats and oil e.g groundnut oil, palm oil etc
