THE FOUR EARLY REGIONS
Region means a particular area or part of a state, country, or the earth's surface
At independence in 1960, Nigeria was divided into three regions; Western, eastern and northern regions and the federal district Lagos.
In 1963 however, two provinces, Benin and Delta were split from the Western region to form the new Mid-western region
The four early regions are as follows
It was one of the four regions developed during the British Colonial rule in Nigeria. Its population is largely Yoruba. Its capital was at Ibadan. In 1963, two provinces, Benin and Delta were split from the region to form the new Mid-Western region
It was created from former protectorate of Northern Nigeria. It included numerous ethnic groups e.g Gwari, Hausa, Fulani etc.
