The teacher revises the previous lesson on the first federal capital of Nigeria

She then explains the meaning of federal capital:

A federal capital is a city where the country’s federal government is located

She explains the reasons for the change of Federal capital from Lagos to Abuja

1. Lagos is a coastal city with Atlantic ocean at its border. This makes Lagos prone to external attacks by air or sea but Abuja is located at  the heart of Nigeria’s land

2. Lagos is densely populated as it was not just a capital city but also the commercial hub of Nigeria which causes serious congestion and environmental problem and rendering it unfit for a capital city

3. Lagos has limited area of Land and may not be able to accommodate further expansion in the future unlike Abuja

4. Lagos is the land of the Yoruba tribe leaving no room for neutrality unlike Abuja that accommodates different tribes in a way no man can claim the land.

5. Abuja was designed solely as a capital city hence its suitability unlike forcing Lagos to suit a capital city which it wasn’t designed for
