  6. Mention the duties of security agencies

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS: Charts showing the characteristics of a gang, Charts/pictures of resources such as road safety, Red cross, police etc, relevant pictures and charts of other symbols can be respected

STEP 1

INTRODUCTION

The teacher revises the previous lesson on highway codes. The teacher introduces the new topic by identifying other symbols that ought to be respected e.g traditional and religious leaders, highway codes etc

EXPLANATION

The teacher then explains the meaning of traditional leaders and religious leaders

 

A Traditional leader means any person who in terms of customary law or any other law holds a position in a traditional ruling hierarchy e.g Oba, Obi, Emir, Sultan etc

 

A religious leader a person who is recognised within a particular religion as having authority within that body e.g Priest, Imam, Pastors etc

The teacher further describes the symbol/staff of office

 

A staff of office is a staff, the carrying of which often denotes an official's position, a social rank or a degree of social prestige.

Meaning of traditional leaders and religious leaders

Gang is a group of people acting together to do something illegal

1. Activities include intimidation and extortion, vandalism, theft, assault, swarming, drug trafficking, stabbings, shootings and sometimes murder.

2.  Members may wear certain kinds of colors of clothing in very specific ways and/or use special hand signals, nicknames or symbols

The teacher describes explains what security agencies means

 

Security agencies are governmental organizations in charge of activities that border on intelligence for the internal security of a nation.

She further explains the functions of the security agencies

 

SSS- State Security Service

They are responsible for gathering information and intelligence within the country, especially for the protection of senior government officials, such as the President and Governors of the states.

 

NIA-National Intelligence Agency

They are responsible for overseeing foreign intelligence and counterintelligence operations.

 

DIA- Defence Intelligence Agency

They are responsible for providing an efficient means of obtaining military intelligence for the Nigerian Armed Forces and Ministry of Defence

 

The Nigerian Armed Forces

They are responsible for defending the country from external aggression, maintaining the territorial integrity of Nigeria on the land sea and air and to suppress every action of insurgency and insurrection
