SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to;

  1. Recognize, read and spell the ‘oa’, ‘oi’ and ‘oy’ graphemes

ENTRY BEHAVIOR : Pupils can identify and recite all the letters of the alphabets and the vowels

SET INDUCTION : The teachers uses the ‘Oh, did you see the billy goat’ song to arouse the pupils

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS : Objects with the ‘oa’, ‘oi’ and ‘oy’ grapheme, chart showing objects with the ‘oa’, ‘oi’ and ‘oy’ grapheme sound, white board, dry erase marker, clue cards

-Revises the Long and short vowel sounds we’ve treated before

- Introduces the grapheme ‘oa’ as one of the variations of the Long ‘o’ sound

- Explains that the sound ‘oa’ takes the sound of the ‘o’ letter name

- Gives a list of word with the ‘oa’ sound

GUIDED PRACTICE

- Shows the pupils clue cards with the grapheme in front and a clue word at the back. Have them say the clue word then sound the grapheme it represents e.g goat(oa)

- Shows the children several images of words containing the grapheme ‘oa’ and asks them to pronounce it aloud

- Gives the pupils exercises on the ‘oa’ sound
