SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to;

  1. Recognize and spell sets of words with silent letters
  2. Be familiar with words with silent letters

ENTRY BEHAVIOR : Pupils can identify that all the vowels have both short and long sounds

SET INDUCTION : The teachers uses the ‘The bossy R’ song to arouse the pupils

INTRODUCTION

- Asks the pupils what they know about vowels

-Writes a word on the board that contains silent letters

And asks the pupils to pronounce it aloud and state their observations

- Explains that when there are contained in a word silent or unsounded letters, they are called silent words

GUIDED PRACTICE

- Tells the pupils that many words syart with ‘wr’ where ‘w’ sleeps and ‘r’ is awake. So it is pronounced as ‘r’(w is silent) and there are many words which start with ‘kn’ where ‘k’ sleeps and ‘n’ is awake. So it is pronounced as ‘n’, ‘k’ is silent

- Pupils are to work in pairs. Each pupil must think of one extra word that starts with ‘wr’ and one word with ‘kn’

-Gives the pupils exercises on the silent letters

Ask the pupils to add ‘kn’ or ‘wr’ to the following words
