INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES

PERIOD 1 and 2: Importance of soil to animals

PRESENTATION

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY

PUPIL’S ACTIVITY

STEP 1

INTRODUCTION

The teacher revisits the previous lesson on the importance of soil to plants

She then makes the whole class to observe a sample of soil and state some living organisms in the soil

1. earthworms

2. centipede

3. millipede

4. ants

5. mites

6. spring tails

Pupils pay attention

STEP 2

EXPLANATION

The teacher then highlights the nutrients animals derive from the soil

1. carbon

2. hydrogen

3. oxygen

4. nitrogen

5. phosphorus

6. potassium

7. calcium

Pupils pay attention and participates

STEP 3

DEMONSTRATION

The teacher further explains and demonstrates the uses of soil to humans and animals

1. It is used by humans for farming, building, pottery making etc

2. it provides shelter to some organisms e.g earthworm

3. Soil absorbs the decomposed dead organisms

4. It is used by humans to make some kitchen utensils e.g glassware

5. Soil helps to regulate the earth temperature by holding the trees in it providing covering for animals

6. Soil provides food for animals as the crops grown on it is eaten by them

Pupils pay attention and participate

STEP 4

NOTE TAKING

The teacher writes a short note on the board

The pupils copy the note in their books

EVALUATION:    1. Give three examples of animals that live in the soil

  1. Mention three nutrients that animals can get from the soil
  2. Discuss three importance of soil to animals

CLASS ACTIVITY: Each pupil demonstrates planting seeds in the soil

CLASSWORK: As in evaluation

CONCLUSION: The teacher commends the pupils positively

PERIOD 3: Input devices

PRESENTATION

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY

PUPIL’S ACTIVITY

STEP 1

INTRODUCTION

The teacher revisits the previous lesson on the differences between hardware and software and introduces what input devices are- Input devices are used to send commands and data to the computer system

Pupils pay attention

STEP 2

EXPLANATION

The teacher then explains that input devices are one of the examples of hardware because they can be seen and touched

Pupils pay attention and participates

STEP 3

DEMONSTRATION

She explains and demonstrates the functions of some input devices

1. Mouse- It is used to move and drag items in a computer

2. keyboard- it is used so send commands through texts and characters to the computer system

3. Scanner- it is used to enter texts and images into the computer system

4. Joystick- It is used to navigate through a computer game giving instructions to the characters on what to do and where to go

5. Microphone- this is used to enter sound into the computer system

Pupils pay attention and participate
